I chose Tauri as the core framework, a decision that would prove to be a game-changer. Unlike Electron, which bundles a full Chromium instance, Tauri leverages the operating system’s native web renderer, drastically reducing the application’s size and memory footprint (lowered by around 95%). Paired with Svelte, a compiler that turns your declarative components into highly efficient, vanilla JavaScript, the new Ocompress was not just a re-skin; it was a complete re-engineering for performance.

The result is an application that is not only secure and privacy-respecting but also blazingly fast and incredibly lightweight. Ocompress starts up in a flash, processes images in the blink of an eye, and sips system resources. You can compress and convert your images to modern formats like WebP, optimize JPEGs with MozJPEG, or reduce PNG file sizes with PngQuant—all locally, all offline, you can also generate placeholder images for your web projects with ease.
